Heat pump installation

Federal tax credits and utility programs for heat pumps change from year to year, so check the current rules before you buy. Your contractor should give you the AHRI certificate number for the matched system, which rebate programs require.

Sizing starts with a Manual J. In hot climates the cooling load usually sets the size; in cold climates the heating load at your local design temperature matters most, and a cold-climate model or dual-fuel setup may be the right choice.
