Heat Pumps services
A heat pump cools in summer and moves heat indoors in winter, so it runs most of the year. Heat pump services cover repairs to the reversing valve, defrost controls and backup heat, and sizing and installing new systems, including cold-climate models.

Heat pumps work like an air conditioner that can run in reverse. In heating mode the outdoor coil gets cold and can frost over, so the system periodically defrosts itself. Steam from the outdoor unit in winter is normal; a unit encased in ice is not.
Modern cold-climate heat pumps keep heating well below freezing, and many homes pair a heat pump with a gas furnace as a dual-fuel system. Federal tax credits and many utility programs offer incentives for qualifying heat pumps, so ask about current programs before choosing equipment.

FAQ
Heat Pumps questions
Do heat pumps work in cold weather?+
Yes. Cold-climate heat pumps are rated to heat at temperatures well below freezing, with backup heat for the coldest days.
Why is my heat pump blowing cool air?+
It may be in defrost mode for a few minutes. If it continues, the reversing valve, refrigerant charge or backup heat may need service.
Is a heat pump cheaper to run than a furnace?+
It depends on local electricity and gas prices and the efficiency of each system. In many areas a modern heat pump costs less to run than electric resistance or propane heat.
